Stevens & Lee Public Affairs Helps National Energy Storage Developer Advance Grid-Scale Project in New Jersey

Elevate Renewables (Elevate), a national developer of battery energy storage resources, has been awarded long-term financial incentives by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) for a 600MWh battery energy storage system at the Bergen Generating Station in Ridgefield, NJ.

Elevate’s Bergen County project is poised to be one of the biggest energy storage projects in New Jersey. It will aim to increase the local tax base and include close collaboration with local communities across development and operations.

Stevens & Lee Public Affairs is pleased to have provided critical assistance to Elevate in its application to NJBPU to help the company obtain long-term grants for their battery storage solution to support the growing energy needs in the Garden State. The firm currently is assisting Elevate with regulatory processes in support of the project.

In addition to helping Elevate with its grants award, Stevens & Lee Public Affairs’ Bob Gordon worked closely with state policymakers last year to set the legislative framework for facilitating energy storage projects through long-term financing incentives. These efforts aligned closely with NJBPU priorities to develop energy storage systems that keep pace with growing energy demands more efficiently than power plant construction, which is hindered by supply chain challenges.

Bob is a former New Jersey state senator, utility commissioner, transportation policy maker and corporate management consultant. In 2018, he was appointed by Governor Phil Murphy as one of five Commissioners of the NJBPU, where he was involved in all major agency initiatives, including the electrification of the transportation sector, revamping of all solar programs, developing new energy efficiency initiatives, upgrading utility infrastructure and integrating new sources of energy into the grid.
